NCWAA Region XI School of the Piece April 9th, 2011, McKee, KY

Saturday, April 9th 2011. All times are approximate, and the order of demonstrations and lectures are subject to change. We will furnish free snacks and drinks as well as free earplugs for all. A registration fee of $10 as well as donations for the re-enactment will be accepted. Forward to all interested parties. Turn onto 290 from the red light in Mckee and follow to the Jackson Energy Farm.

8 am – 9 am:   Registration and sign waivers
9 am – 9:30 am:   Introductions: Mjr. Keith Karcher, Region XI Inspector, NCWAA, Instructors: Capt Gene Gatts, Capt. Leonard Lay, Lt Travis Smith
9:30 am – 10 am:   Mjr. Keith Karcher, Captain Gene Gatts– Cannon nomenclature and a cannoneer’s responsibilities
10 am – 10:30 am:   Restroom break
10:30 am – 11am:   Capt, Leonard Lay, Buckner’s Battery, BMA – Round rolling demo and lecture
11am – 11:30 am:   Capt. Gene Gatts, 1st KY Horse Artillery – Equipment care and safety check
11:30 am – 12 noon:   Capt. Gene Gatts, 1st KY Horse Artillery — Safety lecture and demo. Safety equipment demo
12 noon — 1pm:    Lunch break
1 pm –5 pm:    Cannoneer position and gunner qualifications
Dusk (sundown)   Commemorative of qualification twilight fire
